EMERSON KNIVES proudly announces the recent awarding of two government contracts. One contract is with NASA (National Aeronautics and Space Administration) and the other is with the United States Navy. We are very honored to be chosen for both of these prestigious projects and appreciate the acknowledgement that these and other pending projects give us official "government contractor" status. We have always been heavily involved personally with various branches of both the US and foreign governments, however, most of these situations have involved an intentionally vague veil on the part of Emerson Knives due to the nature of the agencies or units involved.
These are our first "top side" contracts and as a result, are the first that we are able to announce publicly. Since our company is only 3 years old, these are both important events and I am very proud of how far we have come and the tremendous influence that we have exerted in so short a time.

Search and Rescue Knife

This
knife is an entirely new design and a new concept from Emerson Knives.
As a result of a naval air crash over water earlier this year and the
resultant government investigation, it was determined that the then current
issue emergency knives used by the rescue teams did not perform adequately
in the emergency environment. A craft was going down with men on board
and the lives of the crewmen depended on the ability of the rescuers to
cut them loose and extricate them. We were contacted by the Navy to provide
an emergency rescue knife per their requirements specifically for their
needs.
This knife, the SARK, is now being produced by Emerson Knives and the first run is slated for delivery shortly. This knife will also be available directly to the public and is an outstanding design for fire fighters, EMT’s, police, and other emergency services personnel. Consequently, due to the safety features, we have also found it to be an excellent design for whitewater rafting, canoeing, and other extreme sports such as rappelling and rock climbing. I guess what it comes down to is simply this, “A good design is a good design.”

Emerson
Knives has been awarded a contract to produce knives for NASA and the
Space Station program.
We were contacted sometime in the winter of 1999 by NASA to develop and test a knife that could be issued to the astronauts in the Space Station program. Working to a set of parameters and duties as defined by both the astronauts and engineers at NASA, several designs were considered and built. However, after a lengthy debate, a unanimous decision was reached, that the already existing design - The SPECWAR - fit all the requirements for size, weight, materials, strength, and ergonomics. The only change was to the front of the tanto style blade. The addition of a reverse hook was needed to facilitate opening food kits and other sealed items as well as any emergency situation that might require slitting open clothing or gear. The knives have been fully flight certified and tested at the White Sands, New Mexico government facility. Following are photographs of the "NASA SPECWAR."
