Garret joined the Israeli Defense Force in 2002 after attending the University of Miami. In the IDF he drafted to the Duvdevan unit where he served as a warrior and a combat medic. The army sent him to get a masters degree in counter-terrorism and national security. Garret also worked as a body guard for the Israeli Ministry of Defense. While in the Duvdevan unit he participated in countless operations and was an instructor in the unit for firearm tactics, pistol and rifle combat, medical training, and concealed carry. Duvdevan is the IDF's only pure CT unit and is directly subordinate to the IDF's central command. Training in the unit is a year and 4 months long and the unit enjoys a tremendous budget as well as the longest counter-terror course in the IDF. With no war-time mission, the unit focuses on day-to-day work in the west bank. The unit conducts several short hit-and-run type missions every week resulting in either the capture or killing of wanted armed terrorists. The unit's mission successes are published and easily researched. Soldiers in the unit are highly trained in urban warfare and counter-terror techniques and gain tremendous experience in undercover work as well as standard response to active shooter type situations.
