How To Use The Wave Feature

How To Use The Wave Feature

An important part of knowing the anatomy of an Emerson Knife is knowing how to utilize it. Using the  patented Emerson Wave Feature correctly, you can deploy the knife out of pocket rapidly. It takes some practice to master. See how it's done in the video above.

My 14th Emerson, finally got the CQC7

I Love Emerson knives, simple effective and you can sharpen one off of a coffee cup if you had to. You can’t say that about a lot of these super steel type knives. 154 cm works it just does. I got the cqc 7 because I love the mini 7. I guess that’s backwards but I wasn’t disappointed at all with my purchase. Thunderstorm finish, Wave, G10, and a Tanto that’s scary as ****. What’s not to love. Get your self an Emerson they just work.

Superb quality

I’m still trying to wrap my brain around the “wave” design. Other than that, my CQB7W is incredible.

CQC 7BW, Thunderstorm Finish

This is my second Emerson knife. My first was a Mini Commander I bought in 2013. I love the look of the MComm, but the CQC 7 has always stuck in the back of my mind for its rugged simplicity, and I finally decided to take the plunge 12 years later. I always thought it was ugly but practical, but when it came in and I saw it in person for the first time, I realized how wrong I had been about its ugliness. Its proportions are perfect and it's actually a beautiful knife.

Aside from looks, I also appreciate the practicality of the blade shape. The belly on the Mcomm makes the point too wide for several everyday tasks, and I much prefer the tanto style point. I expect the straight edge will also be much easier to sharpen when the time comes.

I've noticed some subtle improvements over the past 12 years as well. The logo is engraved rather than printed, and the clip now includes the Emerson name and brand. I also remember the lock on my Mcomm taking some time to break in, but this one is strong right out of the box. I may be wrong, but I also think the action is much smoother than it ever was on my Mcomm.

My only complaint may be that the thumb disc is closer to the handle and the blade retention is on the stiff side, making it difficult to open using the disc. I'm assuming that will break in over time, though, and I'd rather have it start out too tight than too loose.

I love the knife. Maybe in another 12 years I'll finally splurge on a flipper. (Sheepdog Bowie...you're up next!)

First one I had was a benchmade collab. It was my first of the kind. I was a teenager and it was stolen/lost. Then I had a 7A. Indestructible. Then I got myself a 7B for my birthday almost 15 years ago. Then a super in 2013, and later 2 protech collab versions. I've carried these all over the place in multiple duty roles. They can take all the abuse in the world and keep going. The first time I saw one I thought it was the most beautiful folding knife I'd ever seen, but it's looks are more than matched by its function and strength. People that see knives as little more than sharp fidget spinners might not like it because of it's steel choice, grind, simple construction, or shape; however, people who carry knives daily as serious tools will absolutely love that it can be sharpened on any course surface, it is immune to the elements with little care, and can be serviced completely with a multitool or less. Try doing that with an overpriced and overcomplicated pretty looking knife- you won't. It'll break and you probably won't even be able to re-sharpen its overhardened super steel in less than an hour with dedicated tools- let alone in the field with limited resources at-hand.
